Taming Skies NEW!

Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 10 am - 4 pm. $225

A dramatic sunset or turbulent storm will always catch my attention, but I also enjoy the more subtle skies and clouds as I go through my day. Join me for this exciting workshop where I will share two of my favorite methods for painting skies. One is more abstract than the other, but both are very satisfying ways to help create the mood you want in your paintings.

I'll share why I choose certain colors, and how I often combine encaustic paint with pigment sticks to create these special spaces. You are welcome to use collage and other materials if you already know how to use them, but I'll focus the class on paint and pigment sticks. I can't wait to see what you'll create with me!

Please feel free to bring some images for inspiration if you want to, but realism isn't our goal. We'll try to capture the feeling of the place. It's best if any images focus mostly on the sky rather than a full landscape (with rocks, trees, water, etc.), so you can really learn this technique. Or you can skip bringing any images and make it up as you go along!

This intermediate class is for those already comfortable working with wax. You don't have to be an expert, but we won't be going over the basics in this workshop because there's so much else to cover. If you need to learn the basics first, please join us in my Encaustic & Collage or Intro to Encaustic Painting class.

All supplies will be provided and most students leave class with 1-2 finished projects. Confirmation, directions to my studio and additional information will be emailed to each student upon registration.
